Participation of Secretary of State, Alexandru Victor Micula at the first meeting of the Anti-Semitism Working Group within the European Commission

Secretary of State Alexandru Victor Micula attended the first meeting of the Anti-Semitism Working Group organized at the European Commission on June 20th, 2019 in Brussels.

The Working Group was set up at the initiative of the Commission following the unanimous adoption of the EU Council Declaration of December 6th, 2018 on the fight against anti-Semitism and the development of a common security approach for better protection of Jewish communities and institutions in Europe and aims to ensure the implementation of the Declaration by Member States.

The meeting on June 20th was dedicated to ensuring the safety of members of the Jewish communities in Europe.

On this occasion, the Romanian official held a presentation highlighting the actions organized by the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council on the fight against anti-Semitism and reaffirmed Romania's support for the European initiatives dedicated to combating anti-Semitism and the denying or distorting the Holocaust.

At the same time, the statement made by the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council on the occasion of the event hosted in Bucharest on June 18, 2019 was also presented, whereby the Romanian Government reaffirms its commitment to support and contribute to the initiatives that help the Jewish communities to  manage the threats they face  (four major areas requiring immediate action are identified: the safety of members of Jewish communities, the collection of data on hate crimes, Holocaust education and research, the adoption of IHRA's definition of anti-Semitism).
