In the context of the European Parliament elections which shall take place on 26 May 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched the “Guide for the Romanian voter abroad”.

The main objective of the Guide is to ensure the right information of the Romanian citizens abroad regarding the conditions under which they may exercise their right to vote in the elections for the Romanian members in the European Parliament.

The informative material shall briefly present the relevant provisions of Law No. 33/2007 on the organization and conduct of the elections for the European Parliament, republished, with subsequent amendments and supplements, Government Emergency Ordinance No. 6/2019 on certain measures for the good organisation and conduct of the 2019 elections for Romanian members in the European Parliament, as well as Government Decisions adopted for organization and conduct of the European Parliament elections this year.

Therefore, the Guide includes information relating to the persons who have the right to vote, the documents based on which they may vote abroad, and the voting procedure. The Guide includes also information relating to the responsibilities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Electoral Authority in the context of the European Parliament elections.

The Guide is available on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under the dedicated section for the European Parliament elections of 26 May 2019.

According to the legislation in force, in this ballot, the Romanian citizens who are entered on the electoral lists of other EU Member States may exercise their right to vote for the election of the Romanian representatives in the European Parliament only after they give a declaration on honour, according to which they have not exercised their right to vote in the same ballot for the members in the European Parliament of the EU Member State on which electoral lists they are entered.

We remind that, in order to exercise their right to vote, the Romanian citizens must hold a valid Romanian identity document.
