The handover ceremony for the Minister of Foreign Affairs mandate between Mr. Lazăr Comănescu and Mr. Teodor Meleșcanu was held today, the 5th of January 2017, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On this occasion, Mr. Lazăr Comănescu briefly presented the most relevant actions and steps took by the Romanian diplomacy between November 2015 and January 2017 and informed the new Minister of Foreign Affairs about the MFA current files, ongoing projects and the updated diplomatic agenda.
At the same time, they discussed about the main orientations and priorities relating to foreign policy in the forthcoming period and about the particular significance of continuing them in order to promote the national interests. They also agreed that the major objectives of the Romanian foreign policy are the reinforcement of Romania's image within EU and NATO, the further development of the Strategic Partnership with the US, the special relation with the Republic of Moldova and the strategic approach of Romania's neighbouring areas.
Other topics concerned the newly created opportunities in terms of economic diplomacy, continuing the reform and professionalisation of MFA and making the International Development Cooperation Agency fully operational.
