Relations between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union are settled by the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement – PCA, signed on 28 November 1994 and entered into force on 1 July 1998. Initially valid for a 10-years period, the PCA remains valid until the entry into force of a new legal framework.
Included in the European Neighborhood Policy in March 2003, the Republic of Moldova endorsed the EU – Moldova Action Plan in February 2005.
Since September 2009, the Republic of Moldova has been indicating, several times, that the country would actively contribute to the projects launched in the framework of the Eastern Partnership.
Romania strongly and constantly supports the efforts of the Republic of Moldova in approaching the EU.
The Informal Support Group for the Republic of Moldova's European Action
In the margins of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) of January 2010, at the initiative of Romania, supported by France, an informal support group for the Republic of Moldova's European action was created. The second reunion of this group took place in Luxembourg, on 14 of June 2010, in the margins of FAC.
The objective of the Romanian initiative is the intensification of the dialogue, at European level, concerning the European perspectives of the Republic of Moldova and of support, in a pragmatic and constant manner, of the necessary measures in this respect.
